Our Expanded Mission
Our history over the last year since hearing of the closure of the Great Barrington Simon’s Rock campus has been an exciting and challenging one.
As we enter this new phase, at this time with the future of the Great Barrington Campus property still unsettled, and after also hearing equal concerns in the wake of the campus’ closure to do with the assuring the future of the legacy, history, and culture of the Great Barrington Simon’s Rock Alum community and the current social challenges that our interdisciplinary, liberal arts, and alternative education is facing, we’ve decided to expand our mission into 3 main categories of action (or pillars) we can work on and are moving into a more active phase of recruiting and fund raising around these pillars.
The pillars are:
- The Physical Campus
Engaging with the Great Barrington site for community repurposing and preservation - The Living Legacy
Continuing the progressive educational philosophy via alumni and faculty engagement. - The Bigger Picture
Building a regional governing network to support liberal arts-based higher education.
In addition to these three pillars, there are a few supportive committees or working groups we intend in this next phase. One is a coordinating committee made up partly of two recallable delegated from each of the pillars. This council is proposed to be a monthly meeting body. The other is a communications working group which will work with the website, the newsletter and other promotions and channels for publicizing our work and campaigns.
This phase will hopefully roll itself out over the next months.
Below are several slides from our recent opening meeting (June 24, 2026) and under these is a pdf summary from that meeting.
